French Marengo
History of Marengo:
On the first French Marengo is portrayed Napoleon with the caption “consul” or “emperor”. The first coinage dates back to 1899 and the last one to 1914. This coin is usually called “cockerel” and it was engraved by Jules Chaplain.
Description:
On the obverse there is the half-length image of the French Marianne, symbol of freedom, framed by an oak wreath and a Phrygian cap.
On the reverse there is the image of the cockerel with the caption: Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité and the year issue.
