Pound
The production of pounds in gold started in 1817, when during the Kingdom of George III the English Parliament decided to give up on silver as the basis of the monetary system in favor of the gold standard. Its reverse portrays the image of Saint George riding his horse and fighting against the dragon, and it was made by the Italian engraver Benedetto Pistrucci. On the obverse side it is visible the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II made by the sculptress Mary Gillick.
The coin representing Elizabeth II was coined in 1957 and it is called “New Coinage”
