After more than one century the fixing of gold was entrusted to the Ice Benchmark Administration (IBA). During summer of 2013 the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) was looking for a new administrator as a substitute of Barclays, Hsbc, Scotiabank, and the Société Générale. After widespread consultation with the market, IBA was chosen and it beated the competition with CMO group and Thomson Reuters that since 2014 has run the fixing of silver and London Metal Exchange (LME); starting from 1st of December it will manage the fixing of platinum and palladium. The choice to split the responsibility in three different societies has the purpose of obtaining independence and transparency on transactions.
